COMMON HVAC PROBLEMS

Your heating and cooling system is designed to work seamlessly and hassle-free for many years. When the temperature climbs here in Southwest Florida, you crank the AC and go about your day happily and merrily. When the temperatures dip, you turn on your heating system and it purrs to life, sending comfortably warmed air throughout your home or office space.

But that’s the best case scenario. What if you have an older system, a system that has not been maintained in some time, or a specific problem or breakage has occurred? When that happens, it’s more likely that you will kick on the AC only to find that it’s blowing warm air!

You’ll need a reliable, local expert to breathe life back into your heating and cooling services, and we’ve been serving Southwest Florida’s HVAC repair needs since 1998!

Understanding more about the most common problems you might experience with your HVAC system can help you prepare, keep things running smoothly, and avoid unnecessary repairs. Read on to discover these issues (and what you can do about them!)

DIRTY AIR FILTERS

It is true that, in most cases, replacing the air filter in your HVAC system is a straightforward task that many homeowners choose to do on their own. However, we’ve all got so much to remember and keep track of these days; life isn’t getting any easier! So, it’s something that’s as simple to forget as it is crucially important to remember!

Changing your filter can extend the life of your heating and cooling systems dramatically, as well as improve its operating efficiency. Dirty air filters restrict airflow, which means your AC unit, heating system, and air handler must work harder to circulate the conditioned air. Not only is this tougher on the pocketbook due to increased energy costs, it’s harder on your HVAC equipment too.

If you are unsure how to change your HVAC filters, AA Temperature Services is more than happy to help – contact us online or call 941-766-0975.

THERMOSTAT PROBLEMS

Your thermostat is the “brains” behind your HVAC system. Its job is to sense the temperature of the air in your house and then tell the HVAC system how to react — whether to call for cooling, for example — based on the temperature.

If you’re experiencing problems such as your system either constantly running or not kicking on at all, it could be related to the thermostat. For some basic troubleshooting, we recommend that you try replacing the batteries or restarting the thermostat (if applicable, such as with some smart thermostats). You can also check any scheduling or programmed settings in the thermostat to see if they are conflicting. If those steps fail, give us a call and we’ll send out one of our professional technicians to do a diagnosis – contact us online or call 941-766-0975.

TRIPPED BREAKERS

Tripped breakers or blown fuses can be caused by your HVAC system working too hard. Most of the time, a blockage of air flow is the culprit and you just need to change out your filters as mentioned earlier. An easy fix, to be sure!

However, if you are seeing tripped breakers happening constantly, it’s time to give us a call so we can perform a diagnosis. We’ll make sure that the issue is resolved and your system is running safely.

DIRTY CONDENSERS OR EVAPORATOR COILS

Dirt by itself, whether it’s on the filters or not, can cause the same problems that a dirty air filter can cause. When dirt collects in your ductwork, on your AC’s condensers, or on the evaporator coils, your HVAC system will generally then become less efficient. This causes your HVAC system to work harder, shorten its lifespan, cause undue wear and tear, and eventually break down. One way to help prevent these issues is to have your system tuned up on a regular basis! (Remember, we offer money-saving maintenance plans that make this even more affordable and convenient for you, check it out here.)

BROKEN MECHANICAL PARTS

As a complex machine, much like your car, your air conditioner and HVAC system contains parts that can break. Motors, belts, bearings, circuit boards, wiring, the list goes on! Sometimes, even the smallest component can cause the largest issues if it isn’t working properly or has failed.

If you are having persistent problems that are hard to pin down or if you know a certain part has malfunctioned, give us a call 24/7 and we’ll be happy to set up a repair visit at a time that works for you.

CLOGGED DRAIN OR LOW REFRIGERANT

You wouldn’t know if your AC drain was clogged — or if the refrigerant level was low — just by looking at your AC unit. What’s much easier to notice, though, if your AC is not blowing out cool air!

Short story is, if your air conditioner appears to be functioning as normal and is blowing air, but the air is not cooled, it could be one of these two issues. If your AC unit is working but blowing hot air, odds are, it is one of these two problems.

Low refrigerant (learn more about refrigerant and Freon here) could be a sign of a bigger, deeper issue with your HVAC system — such as a refrigerant leak. If that’s the case, “topping off” the refrigerant can serve as a quick fix. However, it won’t resolve the core issue; you generally should never need to top off refrigerant.

A clogged drain line can be very simple to resolve — give us a call and one of our technicians can make sure that it is properly and professionally cleaned out. It’s especially important to do this for both the operation of your AC but to protect your home from water damage.
